GLOSSARY

TGFM TERMINOLOGY

LESSON
A one hour period of time dedicated to physical education and comprising different parts/sections with activities.

SET UP
An activity dedicated to arranging the necessary equipment for a lesson in the correct order.

SET DOWN
An activity dedicated to taking the equipment back to its storage place.

STATION
A dedicated area with equipment to perform a specific move.

FLOW
A sequence of movements performed seamlessly without long breaks between the moves. Also known as a routine.

LESSON NOTES
Lesson specific section dedicated to providing advice and tips to the teacher.

WARM UP
Part of the lesson, right at the start, in which pupils perform a series of exercises and moves. The aim is to prepare the body for the upcoming activities and improve stamina.

STRETCH
Part of the lesson, usually after the warm up, in which pupils perform a series of movement patterns. The aim is to improve mobility and flexibility.

PRACTICE MOVES
Part of the lesson, usually after the stretch, in which pupils perform new and/or previously introduced moves. The aim is to learn how to execute the moves and improve form.

PRACTICE FLOWS
Part of the lesson in which pupils perform a series of movements seamlessly, with one move transitioning into the next without interruptions or breaks. The aim is to display the learned moves in a sequential order.

RACE
Part of the lesson, usually at the end, in which pupils are split into teams and compete against each other with each team being as fast as possible. The aim is to instil healthy competitiveness and have fun.

OBSTACLE RACE
Part of the lesson, usually at the end, in which equipment is placed in a certain order and pupils are split into teams and compete against each other utilising the equipment. The aim is to instil healthy competitiveness and have fun.

OBSTACLE COURSE
Part of the lesson, usually at the end, in which equipment is placed in a certain order and pupils are in one group and consecutively go through each station. The aim is to practice certain moves and have fun.

CHALLENGES
Part of the lesson in which pupils perform a specific move for a certain duration. The aim is to improve endurance.
